Chalet Espen is your home from home during your stay. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.
Before you arrive, we will tell you all about the chalet, the resort and give you any travel information you may need. We can also tell you about the cost of lift passes, ski lessons and equipment hire, and help you arrange these if you would like us to.
If you are travelling to Engelberg by train, we will meet you at the station in the centre of the village. For larger groups, we may be able to arrange to pick you up from Lucerne or provide a transfer from the airport.
On arrival in Chalet Espen, we will show you around and tell you about all the many things that the resort has to offer.
We normally accommodate guests for a week (Sunday to Sunday), on a half board basis. Each morning we provide a hearty breakfast including cereals, yoghurt, fresh bread and croissants, and porridge to warm you up for the day. Afternoon tea including home-baked cakes or biscuits will be awaiting you when you return from the slopes and on six nights of the week we will provide you with a delicious dinner party style menu of three courses and cheeseboard, followed by coffee, in our lovely stübli.
Wine is served with your evening meal. For special occasions or for those who want to try something new, we have a selection of excellent Swiss wines available for purchase. Many Swiss wines are fabulous, but hard to track down outside the country, as the Swiss like to keep it to themselves! They are well worth a treat.
We also have a selection of aperitifs including beer and soft drinks, spirits and port, which can also be purchased.
We have one day off each week, giving you the opportunity to sample one of the many restaurants in the resort. There are some great choices – we can provide you with our recommendations and make a booking for you if you wish.
We like to enjoy Engelberg as much as our guests and so we are usually out and about in the resort or on the slopes whenever time permits. You can always join us on one of the winter walking trails or we can show you some great snow-shoeing routes (we have snow-shoes available for hire in the chalet).
Finally, if a sufficient number of guests are interested, we may run a day trip to nearby Andermatt during your stay. We will drive you there in the morning and pick you up at the end of the day for your return to Engelberg. Andermatt is a lovely old village with a slightly lost in time feel to it. The snow conditions there are usually excellent and there is some great skiing to be had, particularly on the challenging reds and blacks which dot the mountain. |
