Flying Fox

The recently built Flying Fox aerial adventure rope park is a fantastic addition to Engelberg’s adventure activities and an unforgettable experience.

The Flying Fox is located in a beautiful forest at the far end of the Engelberg valley and is usually open from the beginning of May to the end of October each year (although groups can book visits outside of these dates as well).

The Flying Fox aerial park is suitable for adults and children alike (anyone under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult), and is an exciting but safe day out for families and groups of friends, or even for corporate team building. The location is ideal, being close to the Engelberg Aa river and a nearby picnic/barbecue area.

There are six different courses of varying difficulty in the aerial rope park, including balance bridges, hanging bridges and Tyrolean slides (also known as a tarzan zip wire). One of the most popular and testing courses includes a 90 metre Tyrolean zip wire slide followed by a section of Via Ferrata.

The ropeways are high up in the forest canopy (up to 25 metres above ground) and the Flying Fox is said to be amongst the highest and most spectacular aerial rope parks in Europe.

Monster bikes

Monster or Devil bikes as they are known locally can be hired at Jochpass on the Titlis mountain for an exhilarating ride down from the Jochpass at over 2200 metres to Trubsee. The off-road bikes have no pedals and are large and heavy, with huge wide tyres to negotiate the steep and rough mountain tracks. They are not for the faint hearted (you’ll need to hire a tough helmet as well), but great fun.

Trotti bikes

Trotti bikes are large scooters with bicycle brakes, designed for riding the 3.5 kilometre long winding road from Gerschnialp (the first stop on the Titlis cable car) back down to Engelberg.

Trotti bikes can be hired at the cable car station at Gerschnialp, and are very popular. You can go as fast or as slow as you like round the many hair-pin bends on the road, making Trotti bikes perfect for young or old.

If you like tobogganing in the winter (which actually follows the same route), you’ll love Trotti biking, which brings out the child in everyone. And the best thing about it is that at the end of each run, you can catch the cable car back up to Gerschnialp to do it all again.

Paragliding

Paragliding is a hugely popular sport in Engelberg throughout the year (during the Winter paragliders just strap on skis). There are 5 main launching sites around Engelberg village, including high on Titlis, Brunni and at Fuerenalp (all of which are easily accessible by cable car) and numerous sites along the valley leading up to Engelberg from Luzern. Flights of 100 kilometres or more are not uncommon and the local record is a flight of 207 kilometres from a launch on Fuerenalp.

Lessons, tandem flights and equipment hire are all available through the local flying school and we can help you arrange these.
