Children are especially welcome in Engelberg and the resort organises a varied programme of family activities throughout the Summer, from June to October. Activities on offer include pony rides, trampolining, baking lessons, wildlife watching trips, a pirate camp, woodcarving, cheese-making, indoor climbing, introduction to abseiling, swimming lessons and kayaking.
The Brunni mountain is perfect for family days out. We especially recommend the “Kitzeltopf” or “Tickle Trail”, which is a barefoot trail around (and in!) the small mountain lake which is located alongside the top of the Brunni chairlift, at 1860 metres above sea level.
Along the trail you walk across various objects, each with a completely different feel underfoot, from soft sand, to bark chippings, pebbles, clay, cold water, and best of all, a huge vat of soft mud. The trail is said to provide a kind of foot massage, which has a positive effect on the entire body, but we just think its great fun, for children and adults alike.
The Tickle Trail is also in a great location. You reach it via the Brunni chairlift, and the Brunnihutte mountain restaurant is right next door. The Brunnihutte has a sun terrace offering wonderful views across to Titlis and there is also a large bbq area nearby (with fire wood available), which anyone can use.
A short walk down the Brunni mountain brings you to another mountain restaurant at Ristis, and another area designed with children in mind. Here there is a children’s playground and a fantastic “rodelbahn” or Summer toboggan run.
Please read our “Luzern City and Lake” page below, which explains about some of the other activities which are perfect for families, in and around Luzern and its beautiful lake.
