Engelberg Ski and Board School has a great reputation and was recently awarded the prize for "Ski School of the year" in an international  competition which tested 164 ski resorts. This is no surprise as the feedback from our guests has been excellent.  

Many of Engelberg’s ski instructors speak English and tuition is offered for all ages and abilities.  Please see our “Children” page for full details of lessons available for children of 3 years and upwards.

There are several different options for adult skiers. Group lessons are available with Engelberg Ski School on weekdays between 9.25am and 12.40pm and can be booked for 3 or 5 days.  Groups are often small and the standard of tuition is high.  Engelberg Ski School prides itself on its use of modern ski teaching techniques, including video analysis.

Good skiers might like to try the ski school’s Freeski introduction course, which take place at 2.45pm every day. The course last for two hours and is designed to be a fun way of learning basic techniques for kickers and rails.

Prime ski school is a relatively new arrival in Engelberg, but it has already developed an excellent reputation. Prime offer small group ski lessons for up to 6 people as well as lessons in Freestyle and Freeride for advanced skiers.

Finally, if you want VIP treatment and customised training, Engelberg Ski School offers private lessons for anything from one hour to a full day, for any number of people. Private lessons are also available through Prime ski school and Active Snow Team, both of which have English speaking instructors. There is no doubt that this is the best kind of tuition there is for one or two people, or small family groups, but it isn’t cheap! 

There are three snowboarding schools in Engelberg - the Engelberg Snowboard School, Active Snow Team and Boardlocal. 

During the week Engelberg Snowboard School offers group lessons from 9.05am to 2.15pm, including video analysis and a race or jumping competition.  Private lessons are also available in the morning or afternoon, for 2 hours or longer.

Especially recommended are the Freestyle courses for experienced snowboarders who want to learn or improve their jumps, railslides, pipes and powder runs.  These courses run every afternoon at 2.45pm and last for two hours.

Active Snow Team offers private snowboarding lessons with English speaking instructors, for up to 5 people, for 1 to 6 hours per day.

Snowboarding courses are also run by Boardlocal.  They offer group lessons for 4 to 7 people over 3 or 5 days, as well as private lessons for a half or full day.  They have an excellent reputation for high quality instruction but it may be harder to find an English speaking instructor.  Boardlocal also organise social and boarding events such as free board-testing weekends in October and November and infamous parties in the Spindle disco.

Telemark & Cross-country Skiing

Telemark and cross-country lessons can be arranged with Engelberg Ski and Board School and take place every afternoon. Active Snow Team also offer private Cross-country skiing lessons for 1 to 5 people.
