We are Simon and Catriona, your hosts at Chalet Espen. We welcome guests throughout the year.
Chalet Espen is a historic and characterful chalet located in Engelberg, in the heart of Switzerland. The Chalet dates back to the 17th century and is one of the oldest buildings in Engelberg.
Chalet Espen today consists of two parts. The original Chalet building has been retained and is very atmospheric. In the newer part of Chalet Espen we have a very spacious but extremely cosy lounge with log fire, as well as six double bedrooms with en-suite facilities and a single bedroom.
We operate Chalet Espen as a catered ski chalet throughout the winter season. We normally accommodate 12 to 14 adult guests, although we have additional bedrooms for larger groups. Children are welcome. We aim to offer a relaxed and friendly environment, with high standards of service at a reasonable price.
Engelberg itself dates back to the 12th century and is one of the original Swiss ski resorts. Today the resort offers state of the art facilities, for skiers and non-skiers alike, and is extremely child-friendly.
Engelberg is dominated by the Titlis mountain, which climbs to well over 3,000 metres and is served by the Rotair cable car, the first rotating cable car in the world. Titlis is snowsure and the skiing season here is long, running from early November to the end of May.
Engelberg's skiing is extremely varied, ranging from very tough blacks and demanding red runs through to three areas devoted to beginners. Engelberg is especially famed for its fantastic off-piste skiing, which is amongst the best in the world.
Getting here is easy. Zurich, Basel and Berne airports are less than 2 hours drive away and you can catch a train from Zurich airport all the way to the resort, via the beautiful city of Lucerne which is just 30 minutes away.
In summary, if you fancy staying in a unique 17th century Chalet, in one of the oldest resorts in the world, with great skiing including legendary off-piste, and lots to do off the slopes as well as on, please read on.
